Remember Pearl Harbor

One of the things I love about coming back to Paris is driving by the Jardin des Plantes. You are sitting in a traffic jam and suddenly you notice that an ostrich is watching you!

There is a new, huge, bright blue Christmas tree on the Quai d'Orsay right near Invalides.

Today is the 64th anniversary of Pearl Harbor. The Day That Will Live in Infamy. Like most events that are said to be eternally engraved in people's memories, it has been quickly forgotten. My father fought in the Pacific, though, and told me never to forget. It is too often thought that the Japanese were the victims in World War II. That's what the Japanese themselves learn in school. They weren't.
