It's always someone
This week the post office workers, the train workers, the surgeons, the electrical and gas workers, the judges, the customs workers and a lot of other public employees are on strike. Tomorrow the schoolteachers are on strike (cynically, I will note that it is the twice-yearly sales in France this week).
I would like to be able to say why the fonctionnaires, who have the majority of the public on their side, cannot count on getting what they want, a raise in pay. But unfortunately, for my information I must rely on the radio, television and newspapers, and they have not explained this, since they never interview anyone but the strikers.
Another demonstration was held by the Sri Lankans of Paris last weekend. They wanted to thank the French for their help after the tsunami. You get the feeling it's a very different kind of country.
