Two of the questions for the nationwide French Baccalaureate exam this year were controversial. On one of the specialist Bac exams, students were asked to write as if they were a Somali Muslim girl and describe her oppression. This irritated quite a few young Muslims. But the question that really raised a scandal was the "scientific" question on the Literary Baccalaureate exam: "With the help of this document [an article from Le Monde], illustrate the arguments in favor of the legalization of abortion in France," and "Discuss the idea that abortion is not considered a means of contraception."
Abortion was legalized thirty years ago last month in France, which is apparently why someone thought it would be a good idea to put this question on the test.

Terror Alert in France
Paris, July 10, 2005
UPI reported that the French Government has raised its terror alert level from RUN to HIDE on their four-level danger scale. The two higher French danger levels are SURRENDER and COLLABORATE.
The rise was precipitated by a fire yesterday which destroyed France's white flag factory, effectively paralyzing their military, according to informed sources.
