Just got another email from my aunt in Lake Charles, who still hasn't left! The hurricane is now a category 5, bigger than Katrina.
As you know, the storm changed paths during the night and is heading more closely toward Lake Charles. Our Mayor has ordered mandatory evacuations. As of a few minutes ago, I THINK all of our family is placed. There are NO hotels in Louisiana, Alabama, Mississippi, Arkansas. The closest we could find was Oklahoma, ONE room!! Thank God for family!!
M & D will have all the K children. M and C will stay with C's family. The New Orleans N's who have been staying with F are leaving this morning to return to New Orleans (after 3 weeks). R and I, and I hope D and F will stay with one of K's friends also in Baton Rouge. L and J are driving to San Antonio to stay with R's family. Everyone's frantically deciding what to take with us, what to lift off the floors. There's no ice, the banks are crowded or closed and long lines for gasoline.(That's why I begged everyone to get ready YESTERDAY. Outside now it's just beautiful sunny and very hot weather--no hint of an oncoming storm. Thank God for technology that gives us this advance warning.
Here are some numbers in case our lines are down (even cell phones often don't work at times like these):
We'll try to let everyone know when it's all over. We'll be safe. Don't worry.
Love, B
