This evening I had to go to the airport and, while stuck in a bumper-to-bumper traffic jam, managed to get a photo of one end of the bidonville on the A1, the main road to Charles de Gaulle airport, right after the exit for La Courneuve. It goes on for quite a way along the road, just on the other side of a chain-link fence. I assume they are illegal immigrants. It really is appalling that there are people living in these conditions, with no running water, electricity or heat, inches from one of the busiest roads in the country. Today, it is minus three degrees in Paris. I haven't seen anything about these people in the media.
