Today is the day Paris teenagers found out if they passed their baccalaureate exams. It's very, very public. Everyone can see if your name is there on the list of "Admitted." Or not.
I arrived back in Paris last night and was met by an ovenlike heat that reminded me of much-unmissed summers in New York City. Paris is under an Alerte Orange for the canicule [heat wave] and we are all being advised to keep our curtains, windows and shutters shut during the day. They don't have to tell me-- I grew up in the South in darkened summer rooms.
Being out of the country didn't keep me from celebrating when France gave a magnificent performance in the World Cup Saturday, putting Brazil out of the game! I sneaked out of a concert and dinner early to go watch the beautiful teamwork that demoralized the most talented players in the world. I would like to have been in Paris that night.
Off to drink my mint ice tea!

Do you know, I never thought to look for Lipton tea bags here. A pitcher of Southern sweet tea sounds marvelous...
I think we are slightly better off in the country than in Paris. All of our windows face west so I'm just off to start closing them up for the afternoon. Stay cool! :)

You've inspired me to go out in the NY oven & get some fresh mint to put in my melting iced drink !
