Water was pouring in a noisy white Niagara off a flowery balcony onto the sidewalk. As I walked to my building, I had to duck around it. An elegant older woman threw open the ground-floor window next to the door and caught my eye.
"Ils arrosent....C'est n'importe quoi!" she said. "Ils s'en fichent des gens! [They're watering...it's so inconsiderate! They don't care about other people!] C'est scandaleux!" I looked back and realized that the waterfall completely veiled the entrance to the building.
A man walking down the street stopped to commiserate. "Ils s'en foutent de nous, quoi," he said.
