I have been there many times myself and remember being at Charles de Gaulle airport in June 2004. We were surrounded by old American veterans waiting to board their flights with relatives and friends. All of a sudden, my very Parisian mother in law stood up, walked up to a very old guy (who looked a lot like your friend with the red beret above,) grabbed his hand and said, tears in her eyes, "Merci, monsieur, Merci!'. It was a spontaneous gesture, and a truly moving moment. The old American veteran was beaming. Thank you. Veronique aka French Girl in Seattle</p>
