This is a common sight in Paris. Even though the grand apartments have high ceilings, ornate moldings, gilt-and-marble fireplaces, and huge windows, most of the old ones still have tiny elevators. And the co-propriétaires don't take kindly to the movers hauling heavy things up and down the grand staircases with their stained-glass windows. So most moves in the beaux quartiers [the handsome neighborhoods] involve one of these moving elevators, and the boxes come in at the windows.
