Pretty much everyone who knows me knows I hate talking on the phone. I don't know what about it turns me into a stammering idiot, but there it is. Calling a store or a restaurant or airline, no problem. But chatting or any kind of social call? Très peu pour moi. I wish I weren't like this, and it is a big problem for me in France, where many of my friends almost never check their email, probably because their life is very full with family and friends without it. It's funny that the men are much more email-ish than the women.
(In France, the official word for email is courriel, but just about everyone who doesn't write for the government calls it le mail.)
This postcard expresses my attitude toward that convenient little thing, the phone. Don't call me. No, really. Don't call me.
Oui, Mamie [Granny], everyone's fine. But I can't talk right now, I'm driving.
P.S. Orange had no service for its mobile phones for 13 hours the day I posted this and I didn't even notice.
What mobile provider do you suggest for someone moving to Paris but making lots of calls back to the states? A friend of mine is moving to Paris from Denver in a few days and I told her I'd ask around.

Hi Rachel, I'm sorry, I'm not really the one to ask, as I have Orange but they're terrible-- you can never get help when you need it. At least the internet is fast.
Good luck! Maybe ask on Reddit or somewhere.
