Brigade of Sappers and Firemen of Paris. Life belongs to you. PRESERVE IT! Have the right reactions [the inside of the calendar is full of tips on safety and school holidays, but alas no cute firemen]
At this time of year, the firemen, post office workers and garbagemen of Paris make the rounds of apartment buildings selling their calendars. The money goes to their associations. This is strictly speaking not legal, but the concierges and the city turn a blind eye. However it's interesting that the policemen don't do this. It would no doubt be considered intimidation, but I bet the cops think that's unfair!
By law, the police aren't allowed to accept any donations or gifts from the general public (to prevent corruption). Even though in practice they often still do...

Sam, that makes sense. I sure wouldn't like it if policemen started knocking at my door asking for money. But it does seem a bit unfair that the firemen and garbagemen can ask... although I remember reading that the average garbageman makes only 1100 euros a month or something near it.
Dede, have written to ask for your address. Send it to me and it's on its way!
