It's cold in Paris this morning. Yesterday I went out to do some errands in a light rain-- this is normal Paris weather but I had spent the whole summer and early fall in a very different climate and was not really prepared for the chill.
I went to the butcher to buy a couple of pork chops. They said they hadn't seen me for a while, and I said I had been gone since early June. "And today is so cold. I should have put on my gloves," I said. At least that's what I thought I said.
"Your teeth?" giggled the butcher's assistant, a young black woman.
"Non, non, pas mes dents, mes gants*!" I said.
"Ah," laughed the cashier as he gave me my change. "I thought maybe you took them out for the summer!"
*Not my teeth, my gloves! [the words rhyme]
