The mayor of Calais is suing Marine Le Pen of the Front National for saying "repeatedly" that citizens in Calais need a pass issued by the mayor to get to their own homes (because of the number of migrants in the town). In fact, the passes are issued by the police prefecture.

An older French acquaintance of mine was talking about the military and for some reason we got on the subject of admirals. "I get the feeling a lot of people are promoted just before they are forced out," I said.
"Yes, we call those les amiraux quart-de-place," he said. "The military gives them a fancy promotion and the 75% reduction card for the trains and then they retire."
